Abstract

This special section presents contributions from the Session No. 19 “Mesozoic Invertebrate Paleontology” of the 99th Annual Meeting of the Cordilleran Section of the Geological Society of America, held at the Hotel NH Krystal in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico on April 1-3, 2003.

During the session, interesting discussions were made on various aspects of the Mesozoic Invertebrate Paleontology of the Cordillera and its vicinity.

This special section consists of six selected papers based on presentations at the session. These papers place emphases in Sinemurian and Oxfordian faunas; Aptian and Maastrichtian ammonite biostratigraphy and paleoecology; and systematic descriptions and biostratigraphic significance of Barremian planktonic foraminifera and Maastrichtian corals.

We express our sincere gratitude to authorities that made possible the success of this special section, especially to the Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Geológicas and the Instituto de Geología, UNAM. We also acknowledge our colleagues that served as referees of the manuscripts.
